Behind every battery in every electric car is a story. We’re making sure it’s a story of pride, not peril.
When you get into your electric vehicle, you’re making a choice for a cleaner planet. But do you know the story of the cobalt that powers your battery? In the DRC, a new generation of guardians is rising, dedicated to ensuring that story is one of empowerment and ethics.
This is the story of people like Alphonsine, a manager at a formalized artisanal mining cooperative.
“Before, it was chaos,” she says. “Now, we have structure. We have safety equipment. Our children are in school, not in the pits.” Alphonsine’s cooperative is part of a traceability program, where every bag of ore is tagged and tracked from their site to a licensed comptoir.
It’s also the story of Dr. Kabasele, a geologist working with a major industrial mine, implementing cutting-edge water recycling systems to protect local watersheds. “We are not just taking resources,” he explains. “We are stewards of this land. Our responsibility is to leave it healthier than we found it.”
And it’s the story of Ahmed, a due diligence officer at a licensed comptoir, who painstakingly verifies documents and travels to remote sites to ensure the minerals he buys are conflict-free. “My job is to be the last line of defense,” he states. “Trust is our most valuable asset.”
These are the real people building a new, responsible mining sector in the DRC. They are the guardians of the supply chain. The CCG-RDC is proud to champion their work and connect them with international partners who share their values.
The journey toward 100% ethical sourcing is complex, but it is underway. By choosing to partner with verified, responsible operators, you don’t just secure your supply chain—you become part of this transformative story.
Choose a partner you can believe in.
